What is ego? It is a noun and it means “a person’s sense of self-esteem or self-importance. What does ego do to people? Ego can make you high and fly but most of the time it will make you low and fall to the ground. Every person has an egoistic feature that is imprinted in their personality that when I child is born and grows up, the environment around that child is now implanting that egoistic personality, but how does one person know that they have an ego? The real question there is, how would a person know it? Who’s going to tell you about your ego? The answer is no one. Why? Because no one has the guts to tell you about your ego.

But how can a person remove their ego? I guess the simplest answer is, by acknowledging it and not hiding the fact that when you are at the pinnacle of success your ego is now controlling you and your judgment. There are many successful people that we may know of, whether in business, show business, and the music industry. They all have in common, and that is a back story of how they started in their career, the struggles they had in achieving their dream and becoming successful, but then there’s a part of their story where they will share how it ended their career or even how it ended their life.
I watched a movie on Netflix and that was “Straight Outta of Compton”, which was a biopic film featuring the story of 5 successful rappers in Compton, California namely, Dr Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy E, MC Ren and DJ Yella who started a group named N.W.A. In the film, you will see how each of these rappers started their life in a neighbourhood with so much violence, and inequality because of the gangs in their community. What I learned from the moral of their story is that no matter how successful you are, how much money you got in the bank or how many cars you may have, if you’re not grounded and level-headed you will not long enough fall from grace. If you don’t listen to good advice and just ignore the people that genuinely care for you, your ego will surely get you into bad situations that you alone can’t get out of.

There is a part where Ice Cube said, “I’d rather be broke than get f**ked.” I like that part because life is not always about having so much money, but it’s about equality, and being fair to one another, and if your ego is so high it will surely eat you up slowly until you can no longer manage your emotions and yourself. (Watch Straight Outta Compton on Netflix and be inspired by their story)
I’ve seen a lot of biopic films and learned so much from their mistakes and how they coped with their struggles and I can say that their formula of success is not just working hard and being smart, but also being humble enough to accept the mistakes they’ve committed and had courage in facing their problems and worked on them one by one. But, how do we remove our ego? There could be different answers to this, and by searching it in Google you can find one. But as for me, my answer to you is, you can remove your ego if you lean to God, and make sure that God is at the centre of your life. You can still be successful, be wealthy or be the richest man in the world, but if you don’t have God in your spiritual life, all of those can easily go away or you can be in the darkest time of your life, because the Way, the Truth, and The Light is no one but Jesus Christ Himself, the only begotten Son of God. God will remove your ego, just like Jesus Christ who was tortured so many times, kicked so many times, punched so many times, and hit by a whip so many times, but Jesus Christ never said anything back to His perpetrators. Jesus Christ is the Son of God, He can easily get away from those sufferings, but He never let his ego get in the way. He humbled Himself to save us and showed us that life will be so hard, but if you have a strong faith in God, you will surely surpass all challenges that you are facing right now. Let God remove your ego and fill your life with so much abundance and blessings that whatever you achieve in life, you will always remain meek and humble.
I am guilty of having so much ego. Back in my younger days, when I had so much money and my business was thriving and slowly becoming successful, I never thought of God, I only thought of myself who was able to reach my goals with my might and power. But, I was wrong and God taught me a very humbling lesson and I hit rock bottom so hard that I couldn’t get up easily. After 10 years of struggling, hustling, finding ways to earn, making myself a living and getting by, I finally let God steer my life and just follow the direction where He is telling me to go. Removing your ego can make you see the right path that God is showing you, and if you start to listen carefully you can hear God guiding you and giving you the wisdom that can make you get up again. Once you’ve removed your ego, you can now see what God has prepared for you and will give it at His right perfect time. So don’t lose hope and let God remove your ego.
